About the Coalition Against Child Abuse & Neglect
In recognition of the devastating effect of child abuse and neglect, the Coalition Against Child Abuse & Neglect (CCAN) is committed to preventing abuse and providing services to children and their non-offending family members.
Through community and professional cooperation, CCAN:
- Develops community awareness of child abuse and neglect and its impact on children, their families and society;
- Advocates for prevention, intervention, treatment services and policies for abused and neglected children;
- Provides appropriate direct services, referral services and educational resources;
- Develops and offers training for those providing services to children;
- Supports multi-disciplinary cooperation among local agencies, organizations and individuals responsible for the protection of children;
- Ensures that the protection of children is the priority of service providers, government officials and the community;
- Identifies needs and gaps in services to advocate for and/or create appropriate programs.
CCAN is a member of the National Network of Children’s Advocacy Centers, Prevent Child Abuse-New York State, and Long Island’s United Way.
